MEETINGS
FINLAND
The 6th General High School of Trikala in ERASMUS+ program in Finland
The 6th High School of Trikala participated in the 2nd life meeting held within the European program KA210 Erasmus+, entitled "Communicating and Learning is Life changing- C.L.I.L"., from 25th to 29th September , 2023, at Lukioliikelaitos Tavastia Hameenlinnan Lyseon Lukio, in Hameenlinna, city of southern Finland.
The Finnish partners welcomed the participating partners from Austria and Greece. After the presentation of the specific school as well as the Finnish education system took place in the conference room, there was a tour at the host school facilities.
Afterwards, a representative of SAPLle presented three teaching scenarios, two in mathematics and one in physics, which were implemented in the classroom in real time and in a different language than the mother tongue - always in accordance with the objectives of the C.L.I.L. program - with really amazing results. By adopting effective classroom management strategies and different ways of planning the lesson, the teachers succeeded in making the foreign language (English) attractive to Finnish students in the field of science,as well.
This was followed by a discussion , feedback and drawing of useful conclusions with the ultimate goal of disseminating experiences and knowledge. During the meeting, the progress of the work was also discussed as well as the difficulties that have arisen in the implementation of the scenarios so far and ways of managing them were proposed.
On the last day, after a successful week, the partners were awarded with certificates of participation as well as souvenirs and we renewed our appointment for the next and last training meeting, under this program, in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, in April 2024.
Of course, during our stay in Hämeenlinna, we had the opportunity to experience the history, culture, lifestyle and cuisine of this Scandinavian city. The hike in the Aulanko National Park, a park of outstanding natural beauty, with towering trees and narrow paths, will remain unforgettable, while the view from the picturesque observation point of the Aulangonvuori hill above the national landscape compensated us.
We also enjoyed our tour of Hämeenlinna with its cobbled streets and large parks, the visit to Häme Castle and the home of the Finnish composer, Sibelius, while the excursion to Iittala gave us the opportunity to see up close the construction process of the well-known and expensive glass objects with the Iittala brand and to visit the school complex - primary and secondary school - of the area, where apart from regular classes, there are also workshops where students learn how to cook, wash, iron and do various wooden constructions.
Our last stop was Tampere, with its huge lakes and industrial aura, the cathedral with its strange and obscure frescoes and stained glass, the museums and the covered market.
The 2nd meeting in Finland was indeed a unique experience for communication, exchange of views and experiences, maintaining and further forging cooperative and friendly relations.
